Usk

Usk in Monmouthshire is one of a number of historic market towns under pressure from growing speeds and volumes of traffic.  Its streets are well-known for individual and independent shops, and it serves a wide hinterland of rural villages. 

Usk Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council asked Hamilton-Baillie Associates to examine the traffic issues in the town, and to make recommendations for strengthening the identity and street quality of the town.  A presentation of initial recommendations brought together local traders, residents and amenity groups to establish a range of measures to protect and exploit the town’s special qualities and to create a low-speed, restricted traffic area.
